Pigeon racing is one of the most fun and exciting activities for any pigeon lover. While many try to win the sport on their own, learning by trial and error. I will express a different course of action, one of education and study. In this article I will take a two-step approach by providing you some tips if you are starting out in pigeon racing, but from the standpoint of following a proven system of education.

Here is a good tip when starting out, pay the most attention to your stock selection first. By far this is paramount. Everything begins with having the right selection of pigeon. Your stock selection is the foundation for your pigeons, and it will determine the offspring when breeding. To get a champion racer, you need to make sure they have the proper qualities. If you are not sure of what qualifies are good, find someone to help you. Or better yet, you can put in the research to find out what is good. Oops, I slipped up, I hinted at education again. Didn’t mean to, but it’s hard to not mention it.
There are many aspects involved in pigeon racing … training, breeding, feeding, lofts, and stock selection (the 5 foundation pillars). Learning about all of them is important, to be successful.
Having a good pigeon loft is pivotal. The higher your knowledge of lofts, will also determine your effectiveness as a racer, especially if you have many pigeons. If you have few pigeons, not so much.
It is also important to start out in short distances when training pigeons for racing. Never have your pigeons go out more than 1-2 miles when first staring out. You can then move into increments of 4-6 and then 8-10 and so on.
Now comes the pitch, and the wind up to be successful at pigeon racing. You are going to do as much research as possible on learning different training techniques, research breeding seasons, pigeon diseases, loft design, pigeon qualities for breeding.
